Climate change poses challenges of feeding millions in Africa

Africa needs $336 billion to mitigate climate change

The 2020 report of the IPCC report was clear - the window to combat climate change was closing fast and we have no planet B.

For many countries, it is adapt or die. We need to scale up adaptation, for which Africa needs $500 billion per year to secure lives. The climate risk is real but presents a huge opportunity as for each dollar invested in mitigating climate change the returns are $4. Africa loses $15-20 billion due to climate change annually, which could rise to $50 billion by 2030.

The continent will need $336 billion to adapt to cliamte change. The African Development Bank will double its climate fund to $25 billion by 2025 focusing on adaptation. With the Africa Adaptation Acceleration Program, it expects to reach to 40 milion farmers to providfe 100 million tons of food to feed 200 million poeple to cut hunger by 80%. Investing in adatation is smart.

The cost of inaction is 15 times the cost of action.

These actions and voices will strengthen the COP27 and UN2023 Conference.
