Enhancing the Africa Climate Resilient Investment Facility (AFRI-RES)  | 6 December | 1.00 p.m.-2.00 p.m. (Dubai time) 

This event is hosted by United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), African Union Commission (AUC), African Development Bank (AfDB), World Bank Group and Nordic Development Fund (NDF).

From Risk to Reward: The Business Imperative to Finance Climate Adaptation & Resilience | 8 December | 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. (Dubai time)

The event will bring together global business leaders, financiers, and governments to discuss private adaptation and resilience finance opportunities and  will explore meaningful ways various actors can collaborate towards building resilience in emerging markets and developing economies. The event is co-hosted by: USAID, U.S. Office of the Special Presidential Envoy for Climate Global Resilience Partnership,  and BCG (Boston Consulting Group) as part of the PREPARE Call to Action.

Strategies to avoid maladaptation by putting social inclusion at the centre of climate action | 8 December | 1:15 p.m. -2:45 p.m. (Dubai time)

This event hosted by CDKN, GLOW and Government of Namibia will highlight evidence that climate actions must be designed to support the needs of the poorest and empower marginalised voices to avoid maladaptation. It will showcase findings from government-, business- and community-led initiatives from Africa, Asia and Latin America focusing on inclusive programming to address poverty and promote equality, including gender equality, in the transition to climate-resilient, low- carbon economies.

From Reaction to Socio-Ecological Resilience: Advancing disaster risk reduction and ecosystem restoration for climate adaptation | 8 December | 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Dubai time) 

The event will take a holistic approach to the concept of socio-ecological resilience by showcasing solutions across different contexts, from local to international scales and across various sectors. We must empower multiple actors, ensuring their voices are heard, their perspectives are valued, and their diverse values are integrated into the design of these solutions. The event is hosted by United Nations University (UNU), Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS), Institute on Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UN-CRIS),  Maastricht Economic and Social Research Institute on Innovation and Technology (UNU-MERIT), and International Coalition for Sustainable Infrastructure (ICSI).

Ouranos and DanChurchAid are co-leading an official COP28 side event discussing about the future of adaptation. The session will be an opportunity to learn more about the key messages and outcomes of this conference attended by more than 2000 participant coming from 127 countries.

Navigating Complex Crises: Climate adaptation, community leadership, and transformative local actions | 9 December | 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. (Dubai time)

This session explores the potential and practical challenges that community leaders face when navigating complex climate-induced disasters. With a panel of experts from different stakeholder groups in the humanitarian sector, the session weaves together, insights and experiences to generate ideas for transformative local action for improved disaster preparedness, emergency response, and climate resilience. The speakers will discuss good practices and lessons at the global, regional, national, and subnational levels for enhancing community leadership through access to a range of enablers – policy frameworks, knowledge, and skills.
