About the virtual masterclass:

As part of the Just Youth Energy Academy, the Sustainable Energy Youth Network is convening a series of virtual sessions and activities to unpack just energy transition concepts and perspectives for youth. The session - titled 'Toward a Just Energy Transition: exploring the Anthropology of Energy, and insights from Sines, Portugal and Mindoro, Philippines' - will aim to:

  1. Explore the role of anthropology in understanding the social, cultural, and political dimensions of energy transitions.

  2. Consider the case of Sines, Portugal, and understand the just transition challenges and strategies in a region previously tied to fossil fuel industries.

  3. Highlight youth experiences and perspectives working with indigenous peoples in the Philippines in the context of energy transitions.

  4. Facilitate a discussion on best practices and potential solutions for achieving just energy transitions.

What is the Just Youth Energy Academy?

The Just Youth Energy Academy is a programme convened by the Sustainable Energy Youth Network with the support of the EU Teens for Green, an initiative providing youth with opportunities to engage with European Just Transition regions, with a focus in Southern Portugal. It aims to empower young people to take action, raise awareness about environmental issues, and advocate for green policies within the European Union. To learn more, visit us online.
