Profile
Sylvia did her BSc in Biological Sciences and MSc in Marine Biology at the Biosciences Institute of the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil. She also has a specialization in Environmental Management and Technologies from the Polytechnic School of Engineering at the same university. She has worked for over 15 years as an Environmental and Sustainable Development Practitioner in Brazil, has been assigned as Project Manager and Technical Lead for several environmental impact assessments, risk assessments, environmental feasibility studies, and management and monitoring plans, as well as has worked for clients in the private and government sectors. She decided to go back to school in 2014 and obtained another MSc from the School of International Service at the American University in Washington DC, USA in 2016, and now she is a Ph.D. candidate in the School of School of Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences - New Zealand Climate Change Research Institute, at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. Her doctoral research examines the intersection between international development assistance and climate change adaptation in coastal zones of developing countries, analyzing the current process of measuring success in the implementation of adaptation projects, and the emerging evidence of increased coastal resilience to the impacts of climate change and sea-level rise.
