Monica Coll Besa

Research Associate

I am a Research Associate of  the Stockholm Environment institute (SEI) Oxford Centre in the UK. I am a transdisciplinar researcher with a passion for research communication and the use of creative and practical approaches to achieve social change. My work focuses on the social aspects of climate adaptation, particularly at the science-policy-practice interface in developing country contexts (especially in Africa but not limited to).

My diverse work and interests include climate services, ICTs and climate risk communication; climate knowledge brokering; adaptation decision-making; social learning, social change and monitoring, evaluation and learning; the integration of community-based and ecosystem-based adaptation approaches; vulnerability and livelihoods; and adaptation and mitigation synergies (mainly climate-smart agriculture and climate resilient development in urban contexts). I also have a strong interest in the links between climate change and gender aspects, especially with regards to differentiated vulnerability and gender-sensitive adaptation strategies.

I am the editor of the Synergies between Adaptation and Mitigation theme, the Ecosystem-based adaptation theme, and the EcoAdapt Network of weADAPT and I provide strategic support to the development of weADAPT.
