Rakhee Lakhraj-Govender

I have 16 years of experience in the higher education industry. I hold a professional Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree from the University of the Witwatersrand and an international peer-reviewed publication record, focused on temperature variability. I presented at International (South Africa-Sweden University Forum) and national (34th Annual Conference for South African Society for Atmospheric Sciences) conferences as well as attended international (International work conference on Time Series Analysis in Granada, Spain) and multiple national conferences. I have attracted research grants from various sources (including NRF and DHET) and served on multiple committees and advisory panels (including NRF). I planned, managed, and organized the 2019 National Science Week event as well as presented at the public lectures (Facing the Harsh realities of Climate Change). I am registered as a Professional Natural Scientist with South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions. I am a member of the Society of South African Geographers (SASAG) and the South African Society for Atmospheric Sciences (SASAS). I am passionate about finding solutions to the climate crisis through research. I am a highly motivated individual, who is self-driven, enthusiastic, and determined. My excellent work ethic and innate ability to persevere enables me to achieve my goals. I pride myself on adding value and taking the initiative to improve the quality of procedures.

I am an experienced Lecturer, with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry, seeking new challenges. My skills include scientific writing, conference presentations, Environmental Compliance, Water Quality, Environmental Impact Assessments, Environmental Auditing, proposal writing, and funding applications. I am experienced in setting, marking, and moderating exams, supervision of student projects as well as curriculum development. I was an external moderator for BSc (Honours) research projects and an Honours/ NQF level 8 course for the Department of Environmental Sciences at UNISA.
