Climate Adaptation Researcher & Knowledge Co-Producer

Anna is a geographer specializing in climate adaptation, with a focus on African cities. She is a Research Fellow at the University of Cape Town, engaging in transdisciplinary research on climate resilient, sustainable urbanism, public decision making and multi-level governance. She has expertise in facilitating multi-stakeholder engagements, theorizing adaptation, and conducting case study research and organizational ethnography. Since 2005, Anna has been working on research and consulting projects related to climate risks and adaptation. She completed her PhD entitled ‘Urban climate adaptation as a process of organisational decision making’ in 2017, working as an embedded researcher in Cape Town’s city government. Since joining the University of Cape Town in 2011, Anna works with the African Climate and Development Initiative (ACDI), the Climate System Analysis Group (CSAG) and the African Centre for Cities (ACC). Between 2006 and 2010, Anna worked full-time for the Stockholm Environment Institute based in Oxford, UK, which included starting up the weADAPT platform, and after moving back to South Africa, continued working with SEI Oxford in a part-time capacity until 2019.
